Sophie Gogl wurde 1992 in Kitzbühel, Österreich, geboren und studierte Malerei an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien bei Professorin Judith Eisler, wo sie 2017 ihren Abschluss machte. Die meisten ihrer Bildmotive findet sie im Internet. Motive aus Medien, Filmen oder Werbung werden transformiert, um zu untersuchen, wie die Malerei in einer unendlichen Bilderwelt Erzählungen gestalten kann. 

Mehr als in den Bildern selbst untersucht Sophie Gogl die Mechanismen ihres Erscheinens und Verschwindens im Datenstrom. Immer wieder umfasst ihre Praxis auch Installationen und Kombinationen verschiedener Medien. Gogls erste Einzelausstellungen führten sie ins Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Wien (2020) und in die Galerie der Stadt Schwaz (2020) sowie in eine Gruppenausstellung in der Kunsthalle Bern (2020). 

2021 hat sie an der Vienna Biennale teilgenommen und hatte ihre erste Einzelausstellung bei KOW während des Berlin Gallery Weekend.

 

Sophie Gogl was born in 1992 in Kitzbühel, Austria, and studied painting at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna with Professor Judith Eisler, where she graduated in 2017. Most of her imagery she finds on the internet. Motifs from media, films or advertising are transformed to investigate ways in which painting can shape narratives in an infinite world of images. More than in the images themselves, Sophie Gogl is looking into the mechanisms of their appearance and disappearance in the data stream. Time and again her practice also includes installation and combinations of various media. 

Gogl’s first solo shows brought her to the Museum of Applied Art in Vienna (2020) and the Galerie der Stadt Schwaz (2020) and a group show at Kunsthalle Bern (2020). 

In 2021 she will was part of the Vienna Biennale and will had her first solo show with KOW during Berlin Gallery Weekend.
